Recently, Professor Cong Yu from the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at Zhejiang University was elected to the Board of Directors of the Vision Sciences Society (VSS), a leading international academic organization in the field of vision science. His four-year term will officially begin in May 2026. On the Board, he will contribute his expertise in perceptual learning, neural plasticity, and clinical vision rehabilitation, while also helping strengthen the international visibility and representation of vision scientists from the Asia-Pacific region.
Founded in 2001, the Vision Sciences Society is a nonprofit membership organization composed of scientists from around the world who study visual function. Its primary mission is to organize an annual scientific meeting that brings together researchers from a broad range of vision-related fields, including visual psychophysics, visual neuroscience, computational vision, and cognitive psychology. The meeting reflects the breadth of contemporary vision science, covering topics ranging from visual coding and perception to object recognition and the visual control of action, as well as the latest advances in cognitive psychology, computational vision, computational modeling, neurophysiology, and neuroimaging.
Professor Yu is currently a Qiushi Distinguished Professor at Zhejiang University, an Editorial Board Member of Vision Research, and a member of the Davida Teller Award Committee of the Vision Sciences Society. His research uses psychophysical methods, together with brain imaging and computational modeling, to investigate human perceptual learning (sensory training) and its applications in clinical vision, including amblyopia and reading difficulties, as well as in engineering. He also employs two-photon calcium imaging and artificial neural networks to investigate population-level neuronal responses in the early visual cortex of awake macaques and to examine how these population responses contribute to fundamental visual psychophysical phenomena.
