Cognitive Diagnostic Models and Their Applications

Assistant Professor, University of Alabama
Currently an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at the University of Alabama, his main research areas include psychometric methods, cognitive diagnostic models, item response theory and their applications. He has published multiple articles in journals such as Applied Psychological Measurement, British Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, and Multivariate Behavioral Research. He is a recipient of the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) 2017 Bradley Hanson Award for Contributions to Educational Measurement and the 2021 Jason Millman Promising Measurement Scholar Award, as well as the American Educational Research Association (AERA) 2018 Division D Outstanding Quantitative Dissertation Award. Abstract
Cognitive Diagnostic Models (CDM) aim to diagnose and classify respondents based on fine-grained cognitive attribute mastery patterns, holding significant importance in formative assessments. This lecture will provide a brief introduction to Cognitive Diagnostic Models and their applications. It will also offer a hands-on opportunity, allowing students to gain an intuitive understanding of CDM through the analysis of real data.
